Hi there,
Recently took possession of 2 1/2 year old Boxster 2.7.
Bought from Lancaster Bow, serviced with Bow, blah blah! All in all, a bloody fantastic car.
However, was cleaning the car at the weekend and noticed a two inch spot where the lacquer appears to have simply peeled off! Offending spot is just above the front number plate and upon further inspection, the whole bumper appears to be shedding lacquer.
As the car has been bought from and maintained by an OPC, will they respray the bumper under warranty? Does anyone have a similar experience and what was the outcome.
Cheers

Hi,
I had an identical issue with my VW Golf. In my case, the bumper had been repsprayed and when being painted, the filters had failed in the compressor used to drive the spray gun and condensation had been ingested into the unit and sprayed out with the paint. The finish looked great for a couple of months, but slowly started to lose its bond to the paint underneath and peeled off in ugly patches.
I had it completely resprayed as the work on my car was guaranteed for the life of the car itself.
To be honest, I can't see this happening on the original Porsche paint, so chances are it's been repainted. Even if it has, there's nothing wrong with that, but it shouldn't peel off...

Go back to the dealer..firstly as stated this shouldn't happen to the original factory paint.
secondly assuming it has been re-sprayed the dealer should sort it out.
I am guessing the previous owner had it sprayed at a 2nd rate spray shop.
If it was sprayed at a Porsche approved paintshop or your dealer re-sprays it where clearly it will be approved, the good news is that Porsche resprayed paint carries a lifetime warranty, subject to an annual check. This is a better warranty than the factory offers on new paint!

Seems to have been an outbreak of 'they all do that sir' around late '99- early '00. This is when OPC's paintshops switched to more Umweltfreundlich paint with lower VOCs. Unfortunately it had the Ec-v-r effect ie. doesn't harm dolphins, doesn't thin the ozone layer, doesn't bloody work.
One of ours had to have a re-respray. It doesn't seem to be a prob on metalwork, only on bumpers/plastic and the mend was carried out without fuss by Merlin
