Hello all,

I was wondering if there was anyone here who could give me any information on Quattroporte IV's. Come the end of the year/spring next year I'm going to need a big 4dr saloon, and I'm not really excited by the thought of driving about in an uber barge, the Quattroporte looks like decent alternative at the budget I will have (given Verdi’s recent sale listed at knocking on £13,000). I've done a little research in to the Quattroporte, and Maserati's in general, and was wondering if you could give me some pointers for when I come to look around for one.

What are the cars like to live with? At heart I'm a TVR man so "character" and "nuances" aren’t something that put me off from a car, I'm looking more for 'if I drive from Cheshire to the South East will I arrive having just spent hours wrestling an old Landie on the M6>M40 or just driven my favourite armchair for 200 miles'.

Ultimately, what are the important things I need to look for when viewing a prospective purchase?
Who are the recognised “experts” in servicing/generally looking after Maserati’s in the UK, Verdi seem to have a decent reputation, anyone else?

Regards
Iain

A google for maserati in the uk will turn up various places.

Bill McGrath are usually listed as being the main one (Hertfordshite - not Kent as I previously posted!)

Theres a buyers guide for the QP IV in an EVO - think it was the 25k supercars (along with porsche 928 GTS, ferrari 348 etc) Issue 70 something IIRC.

Main issue with these cars is the cost of bits - parts will hhurt if you need them - though the engine etc is regarded as being very solid.

One to go for is the last of the line V8 Evolution so they say.

Wild Card - what about ALfa 166 3.0 V6?
Interior comes a close second to maserati, if you get one with Momo option. V6 sounds nice and pulls OK, although nothing like your TVR or the quattroporte.
Bonus is they are dirt cheap to buy and 28-30mpg is possible on long runs.
