Is Silver the New White?

Is it just me, or are silver cars getting a bit boring now, in the same way no one buys white cars any more? Apologies to all owners of cars in either of these colours (for what it's worth both me and my girlfriend own silver cars so don't be offended!)

I'm currently looking to change car my everyday car and find myself ruling out anything that is silver, even if it fits the bill otherwise.

I think the ultimate nail in the coffin of silver cars is that the Police have started buying their vehicles in silver in a (vain?) attempt to get better residual values.

Personally, I have never liked the colour - looks like grey to me (yawn).

The huge advantage of silver is it's ability to mask dirt, paintswirl & other surface abberations.

Just like white!

Never liked Silver on any car ,,, its almost like its not a colour , to bland .

Silver is supposed to show the car's natural curves off to best effect, which is fine as long as:

1. It's a decent shape to begin with
2. Every other person with the same car hasn't got the same colour!

Just goes to show how familiarity breeds contempt!

I sat facing the window in a restaurant in my High street recently, over an hour or so discounting commercials buses etc and the two Nobels the vast majority of the cars that passed by were BMWs or Mercs all, wait for it, finished in Silver.

I'm glad that my car, being white, stands out in the crowd.

I dont care if 99.9% of cars are silver. Its what looks good in my eyes that counts and I am more interested in the car than the colour anyway. Some colours suit some cars. I really like silver and think most cars look good in it. As someone else has already said its a great colour for masking dirt!

and grey is not boring either say that whilst a passenger with me on a country lane.

i hate the fact that everyone buys their cars in silver these days... it just doesn't look good anymore... and also can you only get merc c180's in silver!?! 'cos thats the only colour i've ever seen 'em in!!!

i think the only car i would buy in silver today is the pagani zonda (which obviously i could never afford) because it looks great in silver... but when every bmw/merc/mazda/vauxhall etc... is in silver it gets a little boring...

gnomesmith, if you want a car to stand out from the crowd white is ok (my mum has a white car and it looks different... when its clean!) but you should get a colour like mine, which is...

Whilst the gnomemobile is White I am actually colorado beige at certain times of the day so i get the best of both worlds, unless its snowing.

Yup I agree. There is nothing better than a spotless metallic black car.
A pain to keep clean and polished though.

It must go hand in hand with far too many people buying boring cars like VW Golfs, which always seem to be silver - boring colour, boring car, er.... well there's a pattern there if one cared to look...

You can see then all choosing their company car; bloke A wants rip roaring monster of a hot hatch in bright metllic purple with green bumpers and and orange roof, because it goes like stink, handles like on rails and after all he's only 29, not paying for it and he gives it up in 3 years nyway. Bloke B is also 29, but wants the neighbours to REALLY like him and think he's earning more than he really is so pays over the odds for a mediocre junk of a german car (theres plenty of crap british cars why go all the way cross the channel for one..?) thats painted "executive money coloured metallic silver" in the vain hope of gaining respect. He then pays over the odds for suburban "pad" and takes out a loan for a pinstripe suit - which of course has an italian label so is really "stylish" :yawn: Worse still he either tries his hardest to convince Bloke A not to get his car because he "won't fit in" or completely ignores bloke for being an INDIVIDUAL! and not also getting a crap boring 'same as everyone elses' silver german car.

So you see its really all about keeping up with Jones' - or has staring at my bro's colorado beige (catsick yellow) car for too long affected my brain..?

You want an all white one, the onle problem being white wheels don't take kindly to brake dust. Especially after a B road blat in an Integrale

In my car park at work is a nice line of silver BMW's Mercs etc. They are all privately owned, hasn't anyone got any imagination any more?

I think the best colour for a car has to be dark metallic blue with a white roof/wheels/wing mirrors. I don't have the stripes on mine though, which i'm picking up on Saturday

I've always been more than partial to the old Team Lotus Green-Yellow, needs a good car to carry it off though.
