Hi,

I thought I might do a painting for my brothers flat for his birthday, but I dont have any paint or know how to use a brush and it all sounded a bit messy, so I thought I could do a painting in photoshop using the pen tool to draw the shapes. I saw a photo of Kristen Kreuk that I thought would be a good starting point.

Anyway, 300 layers and 21 hours later (id never used the pen tool before and had to re-do all the bits i did first!), its finished and ready to be printed onto a canvas. I hope he likes it as I am quite pleased for my first go.

Here are some crops:

Blimey that's good !! The reason I take photographs is that I can't paint, draw or do anything like that !

I like it alot!
Wouldn't it be possible to achive similar results by vectroising a bitmap, and then reworking the paths and colours?

Excellent!

Now go and do the opposite in Illustrator

[p.s. it would have been easier in illustrator ]

I doubt it would have been easier in illufrustrator because I don't have a copy of it and have never used it! hehe.
Also, surely the vector pen tool is the same?

yo Matt, did you do this by line drawing around a photo with a semi-transparent layer, or did you build it up from scratch?

Whatever, it's pretty cool, not sure I'd have the patience!

Extremely impressive! Also gifts with lots of effort like that are so much better than something one can buy! He'll love it!
