Had two guys try to prove their vehicles were as fast as my TVR yesterday evening.

- Merc C220 CDi 3 door coupe thingy. Had to pull into the wrong lane and cut up a truck by burning off at the lights just to get in front. Then about 15 miles later I passed him again when I chose a better (legal) lane at a roundabout. Mate - you've obviously never been in a really quick car before - we don't need to prove it all the time.

- Biker - Honda something, not a tiny engine - maybe a 600 or so (bulgy tank, sit up riding position, seemed to do 90-100mph easily enough). Behind me at 60mph on the A329 when the car in front cleared. Me in third gear all the way towards the top of the revs. Caught him out hehe To prove a point he then undertook me when I caught a car a mile or so later after letting off, and that car nearly pulled across into him when it saw Mr RED in his mirror. Der! You were the one up my arse mr biker, I was just getting out of your way hehe I know you're probably quicker in a straight line and certainly wasn't hindering you.

Not to mention the usual 1.9TDi brigade who try it on...

Its always a pleasure hehe

I get this all the time when out in the Tamora. They are annoying are'nt they. These Tcensoredts start by tail gating you, then they try and over take you. I just let them get on with it cos I've got nothing to prove. Better to have these Tcensoredts out of your way so you can carry on driving normally. There is a time and place to seek revenge on these Tcensoredts.

happened to me recently, a guy in a 'quick' ford focus tailgating me for quite a while, trying to goad me into a race. we went round this roundabout, exiting into 2 lanes, he immediately pulls out into the outside lane thinking he's got a race on. i just stay in the left hand lane, no need to change gear, a little pressure in the right pedal and the guys gone, bye bye. why does he think a focus could be any match for a tuscan and what's he trying to prove?! driving

My ex had a Honda CBR600F and reckoned my T350 was easily as quick

Sounds about right - more of a commuter bike than a sports bike. You can tell I don't know my bikes can't you

roflrofl It's nice when your nearest and dearest says things to make you feel good.

Sorry to spoil the illusion, but T350 vs CBR600F in a drag race - no real contest up to 110-120mph, after that they're probably quite close.

Ok, looking at the figures I think she was just humouring me weeping

At least I can have a go in the corners. Maybe

Bikes are quick, but its easy for bikers to underestimate the performance of some cars. I used to have real fun along twisty A roads with bikers in my old Chimaera. Yes, they're quicker but unless the rider has huge balls then there's not much in it.

I love the way modern TVRs have such long gearing. Sit in second next to a rude boy Evo or whatever and it might be level pegging until 50-60 mph. Then he has to change gear. Bye bye.

I agree as well as my T350RR i run a brand new Yamaha R6 and not only would there be no contest it would absolutely destroy it. That thing will hit 125 mph in less than 8 seconds.
And speaking about long gears i can set off in 2nd and dont have to change until 100+

Maybe he just didn't want to be behind you when the engine let go rolleyes

sorry, only joking

As for the bike thing, I agree with Targarama. Although bikes may be quicker it takes far bigger balls to go quick on a bike than it does to go similar speeds in a car as the consequences of finding a poor surface, oil, tractor, etc around the next corner do not bear thinking about.

Sorry to go back to the main thread but I've found that the worst for tailgainting tend to be drivers of German made cars. At first tended to squirt ahead and now in my old age just pull into the left hand lane and let them past. Although they also tend to be the worst offenders for lane hogging the outside lane.

'Nuff said I reckon.

If you're in the mood and the conditions allow - have a blast....
If you're not in the mood, or it's wet, or the traffic's bad, or whatever - let them go....

You've got nothing to prove and you know who's got the nicer car!

We try hard not to be tempted angel

Just a couple of times this yr, someone's got the hump when I've overtaken (safely, according to good IAM principles!) then caught up and tried to climb in the back when I didn't want to go at 100mph on A-roads, but wouldn't overtake me.

They are unlikely to repeat this, after learning that it is inadvisable to closely follow a TVR (did they see the nice sticky tyres?) into a fast, clear traffic island...... rolleyes

I've given one or two bikes a run for there money in the Tiv (all in good fun), and although the bike is faster on acceleration I get the thumbs up from the biker. I think bikers like Tivs because they are the closest car to a bikes acceleration performance, bar the usual very (expensive) top end sports car.

Benefits of having a Sagaris...*nobody* tries it on anymore
Only really had one play with a biker and he was on a fireblade, it was a fairly short play, cpl of straights and roundabouts comming off the M6 for Cannock. The bike whacked it open on the straights, but of course he had to brake earlier and corner slower. I went with him, caught him under brakes, side by side round the roundabout (really hoofing it and sliding round would have been a "very bad idea" and then nailed it up the straight again. Biker left me, caught him under braking again and that was it. Only about 30-60secs on a cpl of empty dual carriageways, but it just reinforced old ideas, we both smiled as we peeled off and went our ways.

Where a bike will destroy a car is on a road in traffic.

What our egos must learn to deal with though are how fast and capable the latest common rail diesel units are in the torque band and travelling 110leptons ish. They are easily capable of keeping with a TVR around those speeds and upto 130leptons ish. To shake a cpl of Focus TDCIs with guys looking to get home, I had to really keep my toe in to lose them when I was making some serious progress. In the end my desire to keep my licence outweighed my ego and I let them go, but the new diesels are now getting seriously quick in the cruising zone.
