Mysterious cable from back of ECU box: wot is it?

Hi All,
In the course of trying to connect to my ECU to download possible faults (and failing miserably BTW), I noticed this stray lead and connector coming out of the back of the ECU box. I'm slightly worried that I might have yanked it out of its rightful home while removing the ECU box from its vertical position on the passenger footwell front wall.

Anyone know what it is, where it should go, and whether I should be worried?

It doesnt go anywhere, there have been other threads about this, and I cant remember why it is there, but you havent dislodged/disconnected anything, it just hangs loose (man)

I believe it is for plugging in a fault code reader that the dealers were given in their Cerbera tool kit.

On the other hand since I've seen the piccie and your profile shows you have a speed six it may well be the flying lead for the laptop diagnostics.
Early ECUs have a 9 pin D connector on the circuit board and a flying lead for diagnostics. Late ECUs have no D connector on the board and a flying lead for the diagnosticss.
If the plug has 3 pins its for the ECU diagnpstics.
