Urgent but dumb question!

Evenin' All!

I am off to La Belle France tomorrow morning in the Cerb, which I am really looking forward to . However I am crossing by ferry rather than tunnel (which I ALWAYS take...).

How do you lock the car without alarming it? I really don't want a flat battery when I arrive at Calais!

I was just thinking that if I leave it alarmed, then the ferry motion will set it off and the alarm will flatten the battery if it is constantly going off.

I don't want to leave it unlocked as I will have to unpack the boot then!

Ferry motion shouldn't set it off, the alarm only uses ultra sonics (air pressure fluctuations) and door sensors to trigger.

Shouldn;t see much air pressure change/movement in a ferry. Alarmed mine with no probs en route to and from Le Mans this year.

We've taken the Cerb on (and off!) loads of ferries and the alarm has never gone off. Make sure you have some back up key fob batteries in future as this is more likely to go wrong on a trip than the car alarm.

If you press and hold the key plipper for 5 seconds doesn't this inactivate the movement sensor on the alarm?

On my Sag, the doors and boot will open but the alarm will go off - enough security for me and I've never had any problems with stuff getting nicked on ferries - so far.

What ferry you on? If you say the 0700 SpeedFerries then more than happy to lend you a hand with a jump should it come to it. Mind you I will be in an Alfa so might need help myself

Seriously though, locked my Cerb up for Le Mans crossing and (as far as I know) the motion did not set the alarm off and had no problems.

As far as I can remember, other makes of cars also have alarms fitted. And I may be wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion that some of them also use cross channel feries without any problems.

Obviously not a quick fix...but I got a Kill Switch installed (it hides under the front bumper and you can take the Red Key with you when needed) and it cuts off all electrics. Could be a good future investment for you. really helps when I have to fly anywhere or if I don't trust the alarm.

On the Isle of wight ferry at the weekend there was a BMW 5 series that spent the whole 30 min journey with it's alarm going off.

Don't lock it...

Take your valuables as hand luggage and leave your pants and toothbrush in the car.
