A few quick Ultima Questions

Hey guys new to Ultimas but as has been said on other threads planning.

#1:I was wondering why I don't hear talk about other gauge systems other than Ultima factory and Sard? I mean something such as Sportmax or the like.

#2:Also wondering why people use the factory wheels when it seems to me that much better wheels can be had a much lower prices.

#3: Was wondering if anyone ventures outside of Porsche trannys?

#4:Lastly, I am into rotary engines and was wondering if someone has a rotary powered GTR. I am thinking more along the lines of a 4 rotor. Many people in the Rotary community are doing LS' swaps into 3rd gen RX-7s and why not the inverse .

Some quick answers:

1) You can fit whatever guages you like, but other than aesthetics - why bother? There's nothing wrong with the factory ones or the more sophisticated Stack setups.

2) The factory wheels aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I can't agree that you can get better for less. They may look similar, but they won't be as high quality. Factory wheels are billet centres with 'proper' 2-piece OZ rims.

3) Yes, but unless you're talking Renault, you're into mega-money (Hewland etc.). Again, why bother - the Porsche tranny's are fine for the job.

4) No rotary powered Ultimas out there that I know of. Again, you can put whatever you want in (in theory). But be prepared for an exponential increase in time and cost to do so.

Thanks for all the info STIG and GTRene (sorry if I got that last one wrong ).

The reason I was wondering about the gauges is that Defi makes a cluster in Japan only which for me is very aesthetically pleasing but also includes a boost gauge, which would be usefull for what I was looking at.

Question about the wheels, on my current car I have Fikse FM-10's and alot of the track people that I see run Fikse wheels which a 3 peice rotary forged alum. I was wondering why I haven't been seeing more Kinesis, BBS or more specifically CCW. The CCW model I was looking at is also a true 3 peice design, yet is a standard price for all widths at 2,000$ USD.

Lastly, about the transmission, I wasn't really concerned about time and money because I am not Bill Gates, but I was looking at a 2-3 year build time, so working out all the kinks and amasing the greater funds it would take would be more feasable.

Alex, the answer is that in the UK we pay more for everything!!! No wonder the motor manufacturers call the UK 'Treasure Island'!

I don't even want to know what a standard LS series block costs there. Here they are a dime a dozen!

Thanks for rubbing salt in the wound Alex!! This is also the reason I will be sourcing every component possible from the US, especially given the current very favourable exchange rate.
