Gardner Douglas 427
Discussion
Hi,
I own, and built, one. Couldn't sing their praises enough (but then I'm biased).
The base engineering is outstanding....but it can be screwed up quite easily
, if you are sensible with your build (or just get GD to do it) then they are very good.
Anything specific you'd like to ask? happy to proffer my findings.
Cheers
Jim

Hi
Does anyone out their own, or have experince with the GD427? I've sold my Griff 500 and fancied a change.
Am I daft or is the GD427 a well engineered car with performance to match. Any help or advice welcome.
Thank You
George

Andy Burrows's GD outfit are in the "premier league" of Cobra replica makers along with Dax etc, a first class company.....Established many years.....
Whoops, forgot the performance bit.
I built mine with a Rover V8 (200BHP ish), which was nice, however I've just finished putting a Chevy LS1 & 6 speed box in.....which is nicer
(400BHP ish and it weighs 980Kg).
...off a shovel so to speak!

Thanks Jim
Just sold my TVR Griff 500, which had 340 bhp, which I am reluctant to give up. The chevy option seems to fit the build? If you were buying a built car, what would you look for i.e. any specific problems to look ou for??
Cheers

George,
If I were buying pre-built I'd look for the absolute closest to my ideal spec. If you want it sprayed, halibrand wheels, 383 stroker etc then buy it all done, a half done one will eat money fairly quickly.
I've not seen many LS engined GD's for sale, although a quick call to Andy Burrows may give you a head start if there is (there is one on www.cobraclub.com at £35K though). 350 Chevy engined one's are around (again, one on the club site at £20K).
What to look for? much the same as any kit car - raft of receipts for work/parts, correct details on the V5, and take along a local marque expert.
Rgds
