Buying a 968 in Germany - Advice needed!
Discussion
Hello,
I am looking to buy a 1992 968 in Mint (Peppermint Green) from Germany. The car is said to be very clean, has 75,000 miles with full history and is approx. £7000 by the time the car is over here.
Does this sound like a good deal?
I really like the colour, but could this casue resale problems?
What are the main factors to look out for when buying a 968?
I would be grateful for any advice from people with experience.

Seems good to me, but you will find LHD 968s for about 8k over here. See if the time, hassle and 'lack of control over the purchase' are worth a grand.

I love the colour too - but it is very rare on a 968. It was a special order colour anyway, and really suits lairy track refugee Porsches like 911RSs. Most Porsche buyers are conservative and if mint green doesn't suit the car, won't be so tempted to buy. I think the car is worth maybe 500-750 less because of the colour (if it was a 964RS, I'd say it would probably add twice that amount). Buy it because you want to keep the car. If you are overly worried about resale, stick to normal colours.

Search this forum using 968 and 944 as keywords, and also look at Dr Alex's buying guide on the Porsche pages at PistonHeads Home. The 968 is, after all, a final evolution of the 944.
Some things to watch out for are: Cam belts (need changing or else...); Cams (often done at belt time); Power steering pumps can go; Water pumps can go... plus the usual crash damage inspections etc.
LOVE the colour, really suits the car. Go for it 132, you can always wear shades.
I used to have a 924 with S suspension & brakes, Design 90's, lowered to the floor & debadged in mint green, absolutely loved the car, shame it had to go (because with a knackered 924 engine, it didn't).
Let's just say that if you buy it, bring it over and decide to sell it, call me first!
