INSTRUMENT MOUNTING

Have just received my dash back from L.C.C. and putting the fixings back on but having trouble with the dials . mine is an early griff with black dials and flush mounted . Previously this was bodged by by glueing edge of dials to dash where some of the lugs had come off. I have no reference for fitting but gather the lugs hold instrument flush to dash with the rubbers in place.

I am unsure how the U brackets (that bolt from back of dials to dash) fit , it looks like they should press on top of lugs and then be tightened but

a) this seems to put a lot of pressure on glued lugs
b) lugs need to be positioned in certain positions to match up with bracket and this is not possible on some dials as there is no space for lugs or on the very edge of dash .

also there is only one rubber on rev & speedo dials , is this correct

would appreciate any help on this fitment , photo`s or an alternative way that works better.
need more lugs and some rubbers missing , anyone know where i can get them .

I think the brackets should push against the dash, pulling the instrument up against the lugs. This will locate the instrument more rigidly than if the brackets push against the brackets themselves.

One rubber on speedo and revs on my car.

However I junked this ridiculuous system. I used sections of drain pipe of a suitable diameter, glued to the back of the dash, then secured again with lashings of sikaflesh, to create a 'pod' for each instrument. By wrapping draft excluder round the instrument body the instruments become a push fit into the pods, and are removable from the front (by pulling). Furthermore they can be adjusted to line up correctly with the dash in situ. I have a photo somewhere of the back of the dash, but I think it's a print. I'll scan it and post it if you're interested. Because of the above I have a near-full set of brackets and lugs available. Mail me if you're interested in those. My speedo and rev counter are secured in the original manner, with extra lugs.

Thanks for info , I have tried bracket to dash but not enough adjustment to hold firm , would be very interested in a photo of your system , do you know what diameter pipes you started ?
