Simple question; should I buy a CAT5 or CAT6 cable for a home network?

What is the difference between the two, is it just that the '6 can handle more traffic?

Are there any recommendations?

Thanks.

PS, my wallet does not stretch to £15k

cat5e is amble for home networking and should support 10/100/1000 speeds quite easily.
But hopefully Plotloss and the other cablemeisters will be along to confirm/deny that

5e Is more than ample for a home network IMHO.

I agree that CAT5e is suitable for most home networking needs. It will support Gigabit Ethernet.

Having said the above, I use CAT6 for my home network as well as for our company infrastructure, but that's just me.

You don't buy it from a shop "near work" do you?

If the computers are about 80m apart and youre running Gigabit LAN then use cat6 otherwise 5e.
