2.8 s1 conversion
Discussion
im thinking of changing from v6 to a v8 i have a fair idea of the hassle involved but would be grateful of any input especially concerning diff,g/box and any other drivetrain probs,
I am sure its not the powerfullest conversion BUT i have a good friend with a v8 wedge by the name of ian who has convinced me that the sound is more than enough of a gain.
thanks paul

It's not nonsense. It is not as B&W. Just because some cars have modded engines, it doesn't necessarily mean that the Chassis/car can take it or that other owners would be willing to increase the power levels without looking at the chassis. A lot depends on how the car is used, which version and so on. BTW if it is such a good capable chassis why wasn't it retained for the Serbera conversion instead of modding the Cerbera chassis and dropping the S body on it?
The S1 chassis is not as braced as the V8S chassis, has narrower tracking, and would need to have engine and gearbox mounts modified. An S4 would be a different case but an S1 is not ideal.
The S1 doesn't have disc brakes all round and may not have a LSD diff. To be honest, the cheapest V8 conversion would be to sell the car and get a V8S. However if for whatever reason that isn't possible then I would also consider suspension mods to cope with the heavier engine. I would also look at cooling as well. Wiring loom would need modding as might the instruments. Speedo and revcounter immediately come to mind. In other words to do the conversion correctly, is a lot of work. Nothing that a lot of effort/money can't solve but not an easy straightforward conversion. There is a lot to consider.
