A 75-year-old nun has been banned from the road for a year after being caught drink-driving.

Sister Aloysius, who cares for terminally ill children at Francis House Hospice in Manchester, was stopped by police as she drove near her home in Withington earlier this month.

She was breathalysed and found to be over the legal drink-drive limit.

She claimed to have drunk two glasses of wine and a glass of champagne at a birthday party.

The sister, who has appeared at Manchester City Magistrates' Court under her real name Margaret Mary Fairclough, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and was fined £150, ordered to pay £50 costs and disqualified for 12 months.

Just goes to show that even the most responsible and law-abiding (one would assume) citizens can slip up and do something stupid.

Oh yeah, I bet she's a regular offender too.

What a way to treat someone who's spent their whole life helping other people. It wasn't deliberate, she didn't hurt anyone, give the poor old dear a break!

Sorry Miniman but you can't condone drink driving, do you know what she actually had to drink and how much over the limit she was, I don't.

She accidentally drove a car after drinking then?

Did she think it was a bus or a taxi? No, she drank and then got in a car and drove. Guilty.

OK, I meant to say that she didn't do it with malice of forethought or whatever.
