Is there a difference between the pressure I should be using on the street compared to the pressure on the track. My Potenza S-03 s only lasted about 4 laps at Castle Coombe before I lost grip.
I tend to run 20/30 with my S03's in the track.
Castle coomb has some quite big stops, and a few high speed bends.
It tends to heat up the tires a fair bit, because the tread blocks move around a fair bit.
Also, if the ambient temp is high, then the tires will pick up heat from the track too.
The last time I ran at coomb in the summer I doubt I would have done more that 7 laps at a time, 1 to warm the car, 5 quick laps, 1 warm down lap.
However in the cooler months it'll be more like 10 to 12 laps, always with one warm up and one warm down lap.
So, I would not worry to much about loosing grip after 4 laps.

I go out for a few laps and thern once the tyres are warm, I then set the pressures to 20/30.
The SO3's I ran did only last about 3-4 hot laps of Bedford before turning to cheese. A 20 minute cool off in the pits then sets them up for another 15 minute on track blast.
I'm running A048's now and the grip is awesome! They lasted longer at Bedford too and in fact, I can't recall them going off before I came in ever.
You'll struggle to get more so3's now as they have been replaced with the RE050's, which we hear are better in the wet and dry than so3's.
Just waiting to hear from someone who has used them on the proper black stuff.

Is that your excuse for letting the Nova overtake you!! I will never hear the end of that!! LOL
Yeah that buzz box passed me in the braking zone (bad boy) just after I was blocked by a slower car. I had no grip at that point and he was running with Toyo semi slicks. I had a chap with him afterwards and he seemed like a nice guy, he clearly tracked his car quite alot. FWIW he put his car in the kitty litter two corners later whereas I was well within my limits.
Still embarrassing though.

I have the RE050's but not taken them on a track yet, however John at Plans was playing with the car to look for a noise I have and said they gripped well but when they let go it was instant.

At least you had a go, in all fairness if I recall correctly that Nova does run about 270bhp. You did look a lot safer on the corners than he did.
I always try and drive smoothly on the track. I like to slide it a bit but I'm not keen on white knuckle power slides as I always need to think about the value of the car/ tyres etc.
I was very disappointed with the general standard of the day. I bet some of them wouldn't pass an MOT and the occasional one didn't even complete a lap before it broke down. When you're on a track with cars that probably aren't worth as much as the petrol in the tanks then it makes you think clearly about how hard you want to push if you're close to them in the braking zones.
I think I'll stick with the more specialist track days from now on as EuroChav wasn't for me lol.

Exactly why I did not venture onto the track!!
