What you got on the back then.......

After damaging the back 'box' of the exhaust (the bit that runs parallel with the rear lower spoiler I was thinking about just having a straight through pipe instead.

I am talking about the bit that runs over the back axle then turns into a 90 that runs parallel with the spoiler (I have a cylindrical tube presumably filled with wadding) on the lower back then into another 90 that pops out the back of the valance.

Now my uncle with a 400SE recently had his exhaust repalced and they fitted this back box that I have already but it made his car sound like a V8 Range Rover so he had them replace it with a straight through pipe.




He kept the box as a track day spare to make the car pass the noise test at Coombe.

I am presuming that my car is naturally much louder than his due to the bigger engine and might need this box just to tame it a bit.

The rest of the exhaust system comprises the manifolds / downpipes on either side of the engine. These pipes go into two collectors and then go into one long box that goes half way along the length of the car then then jupms up over the axle to the bit I managed to damage on the back.

What have you guys got especially the boys with the 450's (any piccies).

i looked at coming out of the cenre box with 2 pipes, straight under the diff and then up under the rear valance about the width of the number plate apart, similer design to chm/griff, i was quoted around 80gbp for this.

My 450 has got the s/s sports system on it from RT. Its got the one long silencer running front to back under middle of car (2 pipes in / 1 out).
Just got the hollow pipe running sideways across the rear then turning 90 to exit through the under-spoiler hole.

You don't want to be fitting any 2nd muff, its a TVR!

Having said that though, the 'sports system' only managed 108db when the meter reading was done at BBWF. Maybe Wee Man can confirm?

One Very Small 'silencer' in middle of underneath , cobra sports exhaust system built for this car - 390se , a straight through system may cause mpg problems , lack of power , and trouble with BIB !!

2 in, 1 out centre box goes back then across up and over driveshaft and then back down and right across the rear. Only one box in the whole system which I assumed was original for a 350i Series 2?

Single box below the gearbox then just a pipe to the twin outlets on one side.

Well my 450 has a stainless centre box fed by the 2 manifolds from the engine, then a pipe coming out the middle at the rear , straight under the axle, 90 degree bend as it hits the back and then runs 2 foot , then 90 degree bend out to the rear through standard 2.5 inch hole.

Seems quite loud To the people following

Got highest db at BBWF, seems to not make any power loss, has enough back pressure, and so far not been 'ad' by bib.

System this way is no lower than the centre box, which does have scrape marks on it, possibly only mod I would like to make is come straight out of silencer, and straight through middle of rear spoiler with a twin outlet, be a bit louder, but not sure about enough back pressure then ?
