Is it possible to find the IP address of some one who is online in your contacts list on Windows Live Messenger? If so, can I have a dummies guide please!

Neil that's kinda the point, getting a couple of random invitations to be added to contact lists, and I'm just trying to find its its the same person being a knob or just coincidence.

Ahh, I figured as much but its not always easy to judge people's level of experience/knowledge from their post. Apologies; no patronising intended.

No worries mate, any ideas though? Or is it a case of if you don't know how to then you'll never be able to learn now?

Problem with this is that when you log on to the net (or the person who is sending you the invitations) they normally get a dynamically allocated IP address, so although (assuming that you could get their IP) you could identify the IP as belonging to a specific ISP, you wouldn't necessarily get the same IP each time it happened.

Would suggest that you block their email in messenger each time and soon they'll get bored of having to create different id's every time, its a bit like nuisance calls really, eventually they get bored, as long as you don't react to it.

I could be wrong but I've got a nagging thought at the back of my head and it's telling me Trillian lets you see the other persons IP.

Also, there are ways of hiding your true IP address if your intentions are less than pure.

Right thanks for the replies.

I'm aware of the dynamic IP thing, but if its to the same IP pool eg BT or Onetel or whoever then that will set the alarm bells ringing, also I dont think they're clever enough to know about blocking/masking their IP, if it is the person I think it is.

I'll have a play with trillian in a bit (oo-er!)
