Does anyone know what the law regarding use of images [pictures of people] by a business ?

For example:

Using inamges of employees for advertising / website or publications ?

Also - enforcing picture ID for employees when on site ?

Any help would be very useful.

It depends on if the image is digital or not. If the image is digital you are protected by the data protection act as the "picture" is in fact data. There is a requirment for people using CCTV to mask out people not connected with the viewing of evidence to protect their rights under data protection.

If the images are film or video you probably consent to it as part of your terms and conditions of employment in a similar way to the way you consent to them owning any copywright on inventions or ideas created by you whilst working for them (if connected with your work).

Hope this helps

Also with regards to the ID picture, they are within their rights to do this so long as it does not infringe your rights ie discrimination, making you do it and not others
