Was there really a problem with the fuel provided though as there were more than a few cars which commented on having problems?

There can be a number of causes of contamination in the fuel system. contaminated fuel, filters breaking up, pump bearings, fuel tank linings etc etc, so I dont think you can draw any conclusions at the moment.

Although there did seem to be an unusual number of cars with similar problems, but then again all the fuel came from the same source and lots of cars had no problems..

I've no doubt all the teams and the EERC will all be looking at the issue to see if there is anything to learn for next season.

( which could easily be clean you tank before you start !!!)

You are quite right to say that there are a large number of reasons as to have the problems occurred.

My interest mainly lies though in the fact that I would not have batted an eyelid if it had been one or two cars but I can think of 3 off the top of my head at least that has this problem and *think* that I could have heard of at least 3 others over the course of the w/e.

I do hope that they get to the bottom of it all though

Can't see it myself....

if there was crap in the fuel, people would have been suffering blocked filters etc..

if you consider that most race cars are filled from cans/churns/jugs all the time, the chances of dirt in the fuel are quite high, hence why most people run multiple filters and change them often.

for something to get past a decent filter is somewhat un-likly, however, the chances of dirt gettin ginto the fuel rail during assembly/maintance is significantly higher (suffered this more than once no matter how carfull you are).

Edited to add:

Right, this is what I have been reliably informed:

The fuel supplied was the same as it was for last years event using the same equipment etc. it had been fully instpected and tested with trading standards on install.

1) RC's Mosler they think was down to an electrical issue and not (as first thought) fuel contamination.
2) Team Parkers issue was fuel vapourising apparently.
3) I am told Mazda's issue was the ECU going into some kind of limp-home mode for some reason.

When RC first had the issue, the fuel filters on the filling station were checked, (with trading standards pressent) and nothing was found, (they had already checked and taken samples the previous day).

Hope this helps clear this one up....

Simon
