4.5 inlets

I've heard mentioned on a couple of threads that early 4.5's have restrictive inlets. What years had these fitted? Was it just the 97's or did the 98's have them too? Is there any external giveaways?

Just asking as I was thinking about a re-map, decat and induction mods but didn't want to waste my money if I had these inlets and if they would strangle any upgrades?

If you are referring to my post, its the purple induction pipes that cause the problems. The get crushed over 7000rpm and the car becomes asthmatic. The later 4.5s had springs in them to stop this happening, unfortunately this means they are more likely to break where the springs are put in, requiring replacement. An induction kit will solve this issue completely as it replaces the purple pipes completely with a far more sensible design and better flow.
