Difficult one to search on the net about so I'll open it up in here as I know there are other Firefox users here who may have experienced the same problem.

Whenever I visit a website that has embedded java or javascript Firefox grinds to a halt, completely stopping. It doesn't start up again until the jscript has loaded. I can't access other open browser tabs during it's javascript loading period.

Is this the same with everyone using Firefox or am I perhaps missing something that can solve this, is there a setting in the about:config section that needs to be on or off perhaps?

Thanks

As far as i can tell it's a firefox thing. I'm lumbered with having to use the damn thing as a default browser at work, mostly for java based management applications.

Assume you have Java plugin installed ? Either the Sun version or MSjavx86 ?
Firefox doesnt handle all types of java code well. Some of it is fine, others just dont work -simple as that.

Yes and all Java based website work once loaded. The slow loading also happens with Javascript as well.

I don't see this problem because I use the NoScript plug-in, which blocks all Java and JavaScript from websites by default. I have a whitelist of allowed websites (actually remarkably short) and if anything websites need JavaScript when I visit I just the temporarily enable option and it refreshes the page. However, I must admit I haven't noticed slow performance when a page refresh is done so I'm not sure everything is OK with the Firefox incidences some of you seem to be running?
