I've decided to get a sports exhaust fitted to my Tamora.
Problem is I have an aggressive jealous bolding tcensoredt on my road who is bound to complain about it.

So what is the law against excessive noise and can this tcensoredt do anything to force me to have to go back to the original exhaust.

Any experience of this anyone !!!!!

Don't worry about it - Be gentle on the loud pedal until you warm the engine and get out onto your favourite roads, then boot it! It's not worth shitting on your own doorstep really.

I don't think there are any laws about exhaust noise levels for cars (there are for bikes though) as my Chimaera's been MOT'd in it's current 'noisy' state so it's giving a perfectly legal 124 dB's (as tested at BNG by TVRBob).

The only word of caution is that if the exhaust causes complaints they could slap an ASBO on you!

Fit it, go on....

I have a sports exhaust on my T350 and, if anything, the neighbours love it! O.K. I don't take the p*ss by giving it too much loud pedal all of the time, but on the odd occasion when I have, small boys and their fathers weep with joy! Go on, you'll regret it if you don't.

There are rules, namely:

The Motor Vehicles(Construction and Use Regulations)1986.

These state that vehicles must be fitted with an efficient exhaust silencer. If the car is noticably noisy (and this seems to be the implication)then it cannot be said that the silencer is efficient.

Your neighbour would then have a complaint to the Police.

Why bother changing the exhaust at all. I walked past a new Tamora that was sitting in traffic last week. It sounded amazing and cultured and when it pulled away, it was easily heard above anything else. Too noisy an exhaust and everyone expects that it will be from a chavved up, banging old Nova!

I live on one of the main roads in Coventry on the way to TVR Power and I absolutely love it when a TVR goes past. The difference between the standard and sports exhausts are quite distinctive with the sports being more throaty and willing to 'pop' on the over-run. I love it hehe, should be joining the TVR family *hopefully*.
With regards to your neighbour problem you may encounter some issues with said person complaining. In my experience I have a powerfulish car and I leave for work between 4.30am-5.30am so modifying my exhaust to sound louder would be annoying to neighbours if they are still asleep. If the hours you drive are classed as 'sociable' then the neighbour cannot really complain, just swap TVR with sports exhaust with having the builders in and you have a similar situation with regards of noise levels etc.
Hope your purchase of sports exhausts goes well!

Last weekend i swapped back over from my TVR Power exhaust to the standard Tamora exhaust as i have been doing a lot of motorway driving and it seemed to be too loud in the cockpit.

The other half asked me what I was doing and was quite suprised, the outcome after a trip around the Cotswolds last weekend the sports exhaust is going back on. Although the standard exhaust sounds good under hard accelaration, I miss the "extremeness" of the sports exhaust.

I have problem neighbours (one of them is deaf and still complains), but now I start it up, drive serenly off the drive slowly down the road wait for it to warm up and then all hell breaks loose.

I agree some may say it is then a chav mobile, but all TVR's are/should be loud.

Just do it, you know it makes sense, even the other half complined with the standard exhaust and that suprised even me.

Never! The sound of an unrestrained straight six cannot be compared with a chavmobile (unless the person is a lentilhead)!

The TVR Power sports exhausts on our Tamora are the dog's danglies.
