Sometimes I have marks from the roller guides on the side windows where they have gone down & come back up.

The windows aren't particularly dirty (inside), and cleaning them makes the marks go away, but they come back after a few days. Almost as if something is making the rollers dirty?

I don't understand - this didn't happen for the first few months. Has anyone else had experience of this & any tips (other than clean the inside windows every 5 minutes)?

I have a Cayman S, but imagine that the mechanism is the same on all their models.

Thx

Don't know if this helps but my 996t gets two greasy/oily marks on the inside of the window after me raising/lowering a couple of times. Wipes off easily enough but mysterious.

Haven't got a sensible answer to your problem. Maybe the rollers/guides need to be cleaned?

Thanks JC. I prefer everyone to chip in with "no" rather than feel ignored

It's just bloody bizarre (and annoying). It's "can't see out of the window" dirty rather than a small mark.

Maybe I'll speak to the dealer 'cos something's not right

IIRC there are pads inside the door to guide the window and prevent rattles etc. They have become dirty.

Try getting one of those small handsprayers (green house type). Spray the window liberally with clean water, move window down fully then up fully, wipe window clean. Repeat 10 or 15 times. That might clean whatever is making your window dirty.

Yep. I have had this problem on both my 02 Boxster and my current 996.

I got the OPC to sort the Boxster a couple of times under warranty during service, but the problem always came back.

I have just given up with my 996 and at least it makes me keep the windows clean

Yeah, always happens, not really any way round it (unless you fancy opening up the door panel). I sometimes get it on the Z4, used to get it far worse on my Smart Roadster, friend got it on his Audi TiTty.

Seems to be worse if you don't clean the outside of the windows that often.

You might want to cross post this on the Ferrari forum, they seem unduly concerned with this kind of thing too.

Ok, ok, I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself

Does it happen more after it rains? If so, you may have a leak on the inside of the window - sounds bizarre, but there is a chanel where the ater goes down on the outside of the window. On the inside, there is a piece of rubber which is supposed to divert the water - this piece of rubber become worn due the windown going up and down and allows water to get in - which then seeps across the inside of the window. Happened to me on a 996 and my bro in a Cayenne. Just a thought

The inside of my side windows are always wet after it has rained or I have washed the car. I just assumed it was a design fault. Can this be fixed? It leaves a horrible mark and completely cancels out any point on Porsche applying a water resistant coating to the outside of the side windows!

I will try to post a pic tonight - but if you look at the inside of the door, where the rubber and glass meet, follow the window / rubber join all the way to the left (going towards the back of the car) - at the furthest point along, I have found a large gap which looks normal - but when you compare it to "new" cars, there is no gap - I have taped the gap up with black tape and this seems to have some effect - the only real cure i can think of is to replace the rubber.

It rained heavily in Sussex last night and the re appears to be more water on the inside than the outside of the windows - my real worry is that water is not supposed to be in there and I have visions of the inside of the door being full of water, adn rusting everything to hell!

Am taking the car to Paragon this weekend to get this sorted (on insurance as somepikeys tried to break into my car, in full daylight, in an NCP car park in Burgess Hill - the sh1ts) - so will let you know if this fixes the problem.

The car's only 6 months old, and doesn't leak (even last night!)

Somehow this appears to be a general issue with the newer models. My old 986S did not have any of these problems. With my new 997S I couldn't get rid of it so far, neither could my Porsche garage. I might try what Silver993tt suggested, though. Still it's pretty annoying for a car of this price point...

Interesting. I thought others must have a similar problem as the mechanisms will all be the same.
It's as if the rollers are dirty (filthy), but I don't see how that could happen - my car looks as clean as the day it was picked up brand new.

The problem is caused when you open and close the windows when they aren't perfectly clean. The muck and grease is dragged across the pads and then gets re-deposited back on the window at a later time.

But why have I never had this on any other car, ever??
