Monaco Grand Prix 07'
Discussion
Going to be in Nice over the weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix next year and have had an email to say tickets have just gone on sale. There is a huge variance in price for where you get to sit, anyone with experience know where its best to get a good view of the cars? General admission tickets look reasonable but what do you get for your money? Are you limited on views? Any advice or tips for a Grand Prix virgin greatly received!

General Admin means you're clinging to the cliff overlooking the circuit. Very crowded, not very comfortable, but very cheap.
Due to the nature of the circuit you don't see a lot more than directly in front of you from most grandstands.
I'd say go for W (I think) which overlooks the pitlane, has TV screens, and you see swimming pool exit - Rascasse entrance.
If it was me though, I'd book a table in a restaurant (ideally Stars 'n Bars as this is in the paddock area) and watch it on TV. It'll save you around £200.

The Stars and Bars is absolutely god awful. Its a Monaco version of McDonalds, or maybe TGIF but worse, at UK prices. If you want to travel across France to the Riviera, to eat junk food thrown at you by brainless adolescants, at rip-off prices, just like in the UK, S&B is perhaps the only place in France outside Paris. Just up from S&B is a superb restaurant with a terrific atmosphere. (Well, unless you like the S&B type "atmosphere", in which case god help you.
)Generally, I agree - it's a typical themed yank place, complete with the waiting staff wearing button badges.
However, you can arrive the day before the race and get a table for race day. And whilst watching the race who cares what you're eating? A burger and chips is fine. The good thing is that you don't have to buy a grandstand ticket, just a 15 Euro pass, 10 of which is deducted from your food bill. You're able to watch all the goings on in an uncrowded environment, you have access to the harbour pontoons which means you can get up close and have a chat with various boat owners, plus from there you've got views of bits of track and the big screens, and you have a full view of the paddock and hospitality suites and so good contact with drivers and team folk if that's your thing. Quality food doesn't come into it - although SnB guacamole is better than any food I've had trackside at any F1 event.
The really nice place you mention (Quai des Artistes) a few doors up is often booked out by tour groups, but it's definitely worth visiting for a meal during the weekend. As is the Tapas place on Quai des Sanbarbani in Fontvielle, near the Carrefour - Jenson often eats there on the Weds or Thurs night. On GP weekend they don't have a menu, you get what they've cooked and they feed you and get you out as soon as possible but it's good food and the atmosphere is fun. For pizza and double vodka/red bull at 4am: Monte Carlo Bar.
The other options for race day are:
A panini from the trackside vendors and a grandstand ticket.
Better dining mostly away from the circuit, watch on TV
Hospitality - either hotel or apartment balcony
