Anyone any experience with removing the orange military style indicator lenses on a Mk1 Chimaera? Checked the bible and previous threads but with no luck. Want to change to the clear style but the old ones dont want to go! Appear to be held on with some kind of sealant but not sure how to free them?

The lens is held in place with mastic. The lamp body screws into the back of the lens. You will need to remove the front grill to gain access.

I'm not sure if they're the same as Griff indicators, but if so, see the following thread:-

I did this earlier in the year, i found removing the whole unit ie grill gause and lense worked best, then cutting the lense out and resealing the new lenses into gause and sealing whole unit back against teh body from inside - if that makes sense.

I used a mastic from a boatyard which is pretty secure & firm. I think if you try to cut it out from inside it will look messy and take a very long time. I found teh gause easily pushed out.

Good luck - the look is a huge improvement

The lense is attached to the grill, usually silicon only. THe back of the unit will screw out so you could then remove the grill, put in the lenses in comfort, refit grill and screw in the bulb holder bit. They are the same as Griff units. Military Land Rover/Bedford/tank spec - Lucas screw units for ease of changing bulbs without carrying screwdrivers etc.

I'm not trying to sound pedantic here, but can you actually get clear ones for the front?I take it you mean the white ones, which are still opaque, but a pure clear lens is something i would be interested to see.Is there such a lens in the correct size?

David Beer and 1 or 2 others have clear lenses which I believe are glass tumblers.
The Lucas ones are opaque plastic and I think look better than original espcially with Silver vision bulbs.

If you do go this route, be sure to get two reversing lights for Chimaera about £35 for the pair. DON'T be told by main dealers etc that you need Tuscan indicators at £164 pair. YOU DON'T. [I got stung] I think it's a worthwhile and cheap update.
