Apologies if this is egg-sucking for the more mechanically minded on here.

Had my diff rebuilt, and after circa 2,000 miles the car started making the same sort of 'whining' noise that it was doing before it was rebuilt. Went into big sulk and utterly p1ssed off mode, and took car back for inspection.

To cut a long story short, the problem turned out to be a wheel bearing, which has now been replaced and problem sorted. However, and I guess this is my point, having had the cracked wheeel bearing looked at (big marks and crack starting) I was told in no uncertain terms that it was on the verge of ceasing, which at motorway speeds doesn't even bear thinking about.

Hope this helps someone.

Pleased that you're now sorted. The diff rebuild must have hurt your wallet. Who diagnosed that as being necessary?
