3200GT Turbo Squeal, Indepedent Garages and Being Followed?
Discussion
I recently bought a 3200GT Manual which is great fun but within a week of driving it I've started getting a really high pitched whistle when putting my foot down. It's an ear piercing noise that kicks in slightly after the turbo "whoosh". It drives and sounds fine at lower revs and thus I'm guessing it's Turbo related, hopefully just a hose or seal?
I do have a third party warranty on the car which covers the engine and Turbo Charger as long as the work is not carried out by a main dealer (due to labour rates!). I'm based in Leeds and closest independant Maserati specialist I've found so far is Autoshield in Manchester. Anyone recommend any good independant Maser garages in the Yorkshire area?
Also, a little unrelated, but within the first week somebody followed me home to talk about my car. At first I wonderered what was going on but he appeared to just be enthusiatic after hearing the enginer alongside him in traffic. Should I grow to expect more of this or was it just a weird one off event?
TIA

My turbos used to squeal and I loved it. My wife thought I was spinning the wheels. Are you sure there is a problem? It depends how you feather the throttle to how much noise they make. Get used to the enthusiasts I had loads of them. Better that than a key down the car! There is a guy (specialist)in southport forget his name but he has posted on here (something racing I think) very helpful guy but I deleted his e-mails as I have sold the car.

I'm pretty sure it is a problem as it's a very uncomfortable noise that really makes you whince. The noise level does depend on how much the throttle is feathered as you say but I half expect blood to pour out my ears it's that screechy when the pedal hits the metal? FWIW, the car didn't make this noise in the first 3 - 4 days and I've always ensured the engine warms up before I push it.

Does the noise sound like it is in the car? The reason i ask is because the noise is probably the servo screaming because the pressure valve has failed. This really common and the price for the unit is about £35.00 and it lives behind the N/S bank, in the engine bay. It is hidden and they are fiddly to change but i suspect that is the noise. It happens because the turbos pressurize the servo, which forces air through the servo when infact it should have a vacuum. Another thing about this is the brake pedal goes hard when you put on full boost and then brake.
Hope this helps as it is fairly common

Yes! The noise sound likes it actually coming out of the Air vents.
I'll suggest that to the garage when I get someone to look at it.
Thanks
