ford ka lux 1.3 or nissan micra 1.0
13inch tyres, light wieght, soft legs. lean to the right break heavy on the front, sharp to the left heavy on the back, chuck it into the righ hander off the gas, near side rear high in the air. BAM ! one armfull of lock, two armfulls of lock back on gas.
fast hands dont want a fish tale ....ahhhhhh perfect 10yrd drifft, entry speed 40mph (ish) exit speed 30mph.
same thing in a new car 50 mph 60mph! a EVO or WRX god knows
grip !
fat!
the moddern car is turning into a monster.
even my sport ka turn up with 16' 45 profile tyres !!!!
skoda fabia vrs 1315kg
new clio 197 1240kg
gti 1328kg
when will it end ?
to much grip and wieght. where have the sports cars gone . elan, 205, mx-5 even !

I had a 1.3 KA as a courtesy car from my Lotus dealer; everybody was mocking me, and yet do you know what I REALLY loved it! Was really enjoyable to drive, keep the pace going, and a real challenge.

So much so I seriously considered getting one

It's not ALL about grip (as you rightly say)...

manufactures feel that the petrol head market want sport additions like M sport, TYPE R, ST, RS or AMG models and that that means more power !
whos going to be the 1st brave manufacturer to say hear, 200kgs lighter. same engine, if u want a radio do it your self.
nissan 350z 296bhp 1525kg nice.
nissan 350z 296bhp 1300kg better
car evolution towards safty and mods and cons means cars even the likes of the wrx and evos have gained 200 ks since 1998.

we all like AC and eletrics but please mr man, give us the choice or dream of kevlar and plastic.
