I've been using firefox for ages now and I've encountered some speed problems. I thought it was my connection. I have a 2 Mbps braodband package and I used to get this kind of download speed, but recently I've been lucky to get a quarter of that at best. The pages have been painfully slow to load as well.

Then I opened IE and the pages loaded double quick-time and the download speed is pretty much where it should be. WHY?

Anybody know?

Have you previously tried the edits to about:config to speed up Firefox?

Firefox edits said:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

I only ask as I have recently re-formatted my laptop, and after I installed Firefox and tried a few pages I performed the edits shown above. Suddenly Firefox slowed down to a crawl, and has only had a half-decent lick of speed since I reverted the settings back to the originals.

So if you have previously applied those same edits, try reverting them and see how it goes.

I haven't touched anything. Where are these to be found?

type about:config in the address bar.

If you haven't changed any settings and it is running slow then try changing them to what I posted above and see if it makes a difference.

I have noticed though that Firefox is (well, on my laptop at least) a fair bit slower than IE.

Right, I've found them and they are set to false. How do you change them?
