Speed Camera detector systems

Evening all - returned home today to be welcomed by a letter from the local police force confirming another 3 points for ahem...a minor breach of the speeding regulations.
Imagine the shame,16 years of unblemished motoring only to be caught twice in eight months in , of all things, a Volvo. No problems with TVRs etc, but the Volvo does seem to find them - possibly just so that local plod have photographic evidence that a Volvo can exceed 40mph!
Anyway frustration cause me to digress and the original reason is that I think, to safeguard what remains of my license, I need to acquire a camera detector thingy.
Are there any recommnedations out there e.g. Road Angel etc?
Any advice will be gratefully received - kind regards all.

I have just cleaned my licence of one sp30. caught doing 37 in a 30 in a
12 tonne truck trying to gather speed to get up a hill a mile away coming out of a village on a emergency ( electricty supplies off after a storm)...forgot about the gatso FLASH.
Never speed in the Grifith
but have a cyclops for teh past 3-4 years and cant fault it. Velcro it to the dash it looks inconspicious (sp?) and has the same smooth lines as the Griffith. Easy to use and operate too.

Cool way at the moment is to pick up a Garmin i3 Sat Nav - about £99, you can then load the camera database on it for £20 a year subscription from www.pocketgpsworld.com - Colour Sat Nav and Camera detector all for £120, bargain!!
I've had a Road Angel for about thre years now (in fact bought it at the Motorshow when it was launched). I have no evidence, but I believe it has saved me on many occasions. Loads of warning, direction sensitive (some cameras only catch one side of the road). In towns and strange roads it takes away one worry, leaving you to concentratte of stuff like other traffic, signs, lights, etc. (I have only been done once - boys in blue with a camera set on about two miles on a motorway bridge. Nice sunny day, quiet road, light traffic, long straight - guess they needed to boost the funds for the Christmas dance, or just bored so "let's go and get some easy meat drivers for fun". I know it was set for about two miles, cos I saw it, jammed on the brakes (!!) but got clocked where I had set the cruise control (I was in the Beemer).
There are now a number that come with mapping, including Road Angel. Make sure you can get it updated regularly - they move the cameras, especially on motorway road works. In the development pipeline are systems that can be updated through the GSM (mobile phone) network, so are bang up to date. But I haven't seen these yet.
One final consideration is where you mount it. The Griff fag lighter is in the door, which makes the cable a bit of a nuisance getting in and out. I have wired it into the courtesy light, but doens't half spoil the clean lines of the dash. Try them out to see how they fit.

I have wired an Aux cigar lighter into the footwell and run the power lead along the dash in the dip where the air vents are, can't see the cables at all.

Have road angel. As said, you need to update regular 'cus of new road works etc but only takes a minute. For some reason though the laser detector keeps going off in TVR and not other car/van. so deleted it. Mind you, if you've been hit with a laser I think it's too late to try and slow down anyway.
I have a Road Angel Navigator 6000 .... that replaced a Road Angel detector - now I get all the speed camera info + sat nav. Seems good so far !
The wife uses our Tom Tom with the gpsworld download on it - and she swears by it .... lots more than just fixed sites - basically anywhere someone has seen an officer with a laser or a mobile van. Short of something that detects the mobile cameras - which doesn't exist - the Tom Tom with the gpsworld download seems the best one I have seen.
The fixed sites are a menace but the mobile vans are very dangerous for ones licence ! (or so, for the benefit of my employers
