Well, went to the garage for a service (Impreza 2000 AWD), came out with a receipt for the deposit on a 2003 STi.
PPP on order for first service, 18" prodrive wheels and 40 profile tyres. Also, a head-up display showing speed and revs - childish but I couldn't resist.
Running in may be a chore...

Black.
There are a lot of blue WRXs around and I thought the black was a bit more select. But with the gold wheels it looked too "boy racer" to me. My wife was also dead against. So, £50 per wheel to clean and repaint or go for the 18"...... nuff said!
Took the insurance form in today - roll on Saturday

Good choice sir....
If you're ever on a meet it'd be good to blag a passenger ride to compare the differences with my rice rocket.
Running in will be painful, but scooby engines are notoriously tight, so it will be worth the wait. Trouble is they often don't start producing max torque until around 6-8k miles!

Congratulations! I have 160 miles to go.
I was told that before lifting the light/buzzer to more interesting settings that I needed to have the first service. The salesman told me tht during the running in period the engine uses a lighter oil that will not handle higher temperatures. Never heard that one before - but I'm not taking a chance.
My Scooby (ROO 3) is booked in on 11 April. Service, PPP, strut brace front and rear. Oh, and STI mats - bound to make it faster.
Finally - having used the HUD for a couple of weeks I am an absolute convert. Would not dream of taking it off.

During running in you need some engine wear to occur, so you'll likely be running a mineral oil that can't handle the temps to allow this to happen. At first service this will be replaced with fully synthetic.
Regards,
Steve.
Got home tonight and found that Karen (Bless the ground she walks on) has been running up the miles. 1009 completed, and the service booked for 11 April.
Crap! Got that one wrong! Self enforced extended pootling.
Might just book the track day, though..... Bedford Autodrome ought to be a good first outing.

True Craig, mine is just feeling better and better all the time, and I've just gone through 19k miles.
Am taking it to Folembray where I'll be able to really stretch its legs for the first time. Can't wait
Only problem is, I've agreed to let CarZee drive it and Mrs CarZee too.
Holy cow - get the insurance lined up
Apologies for not explaining.
I had a Head Up Display fitted. It takes input from the ECU and then gives you four options of display on the windscreen. There is a small control unit fitted to the side of the centre console (near left knee) and the projector sits on the dash - about the size of a matchbox. There is a "screen" - about the size of a beermat - that sticks on the window and the projected image is reflected back to the driver's eye.
Settings allow for Revs / speed to be displayed. One in digital form and the other as an increasing series of red lights (you choose the combination). There is also a maximum speed since last reset - useful sometimes, perhaps not in others.
There are three brightness settings. OK in all conditions except hard to read when driving straight into a low sun.
Will post manufacturer and price later
LATER: Nippon-Seiki Defi VSU - take a look at www.defi-shop.com/ - they have other interesting products but mine is the VSD II (in Red).
