Hi,

I recently tried to sell a 350i on ebay but after they winner bailed on the deal and the 2nd bidder not wanting it I still have it. Overall its in good condition but only has about 1 months MOT left. My question is would a new MOT make much difference to the value as it only sold for just above £3000, which from what I have seen is cheap (not an expert). The car was made in 1988 and has done 70k miles. What do you think its worth?

yes, i would not buy a car without an mot. would say it is worth around 3.5k with 12 monthe mot.

Echo Blaine. Selling a car with a very short MOT makes it look like something is wrong with it Get it off to the test station and fork out your £40. A long/full MOT gives buyers alot more confidence.

Thanks. It needs about £200 of work to pass the MOT so i think i will get it done and i should still make a few £ out of it

MOTs not worth the ink used to print it. Most of us know a tester who will 'look the other way', especially if you tell them you don't plan to sell the car.
Frankly I rely on my skill and judgement... and let's face it, we're all adults. You pay your money and take your risks.

agree with the above comments, but as a selling point only, MOT & Tax always goes a long way as the buyer knows they can just insure it and drive away

The other thing to consider is your own peace of mind, if you have a car tested (not by wedg1es mate ) and sell it, the bloke sets off down the road, and as with alot of first time TVR drivers, wraps it round something, at least you know it was as roadworthy as you could have made it.

agree with badred if you have a new mot by a picky tester at least you can sell it knowing it's safe as far as you can tell - there is also the, if it explodes or the wheels fall off situation , where at least you can say to the new owner that you had it looked over by a third party before you sold it !
