I have a Blackberry with a U.S. T-Mobile SIM card to connect to my company's servers in the U.S.

Now, I would like to update my UK mobile phone, and would'nt mind carrying a single device. Anyone know if I can get a UK Blackberry to connect to our U.S. T-Mobile based service? Our IT Guys say no, but I don't really think they have bothered to check. There are 5 of us now in the UK with U.S. SIMs, roaming chages must be huge!

If no, I quite like the new TREo about to be released, as it has HSDPA, bluetooth for broadband access with my laptop, plus outlook on MS mobile 5.0 - can I have blackberry style email access with this type of phone? i.e. replicating my Laptop Outlook account, fully synchronised?

Thanks

T-Mobile and Vodafone already live with it in London and Manchester

I have exactly this problem but I spend a lot of time in US. So I end up carrying the Bberry and a UK phone around in UK and US. Surely someone one day will come up with a phone with two sim cards? Or have they?

HSDPA is on.

However, 850/1900Mhz in the US
2100 Mhz in the UK

I know of no device that can currently do 1900 + 2100Mhz UMTS.

A UK blackberry will connect fine - our installation is in Germany and it runs across Europe, even across providers. (DE = t-mobile, UK = orange)

Because Europe runs the same UMTS frequency range.
The US does not, hence it will not work.

A European device will connect up in the US, but over GSM, not WCDMA, so your connection speeds will suck.

Ok, Now I have been told by our IT guys and Vodafone that it is not possible... But, my US Blackberry still works here, and delivers mail quicker than my outlook on the laptop, so no speed problems delivering mail via GSM - as it currently delivers it. It seems suprising then that you think the UMTS frequency would cause the problem rather than some data connection access or SIM security related issue that I was thinking. Have you tried to get something like this working, but only got GSM access?

What you want to do should work.

The device will have a packet connection and an IP address regardless of which technology it can run over. UMTS just provides a faster packet connection.
