And they wonder why software piracy is a "problem"????
1. Bent copies are cheap
2. Bent copies are easy to get, easy to load and easy to use

Doing it the proper way?

Microshit's web site doesn't accept the 25 digit code on the base of a brand new Vaio to activate the trial licence.
Go to Microshit's site to get another 25 digit code (trial now started).
Go to buy Microshit Office and....

"We're sorry, but no additional licenses are available for your product."

Genius. rolleyes

Any ideas???

So you've gone out and bought a copy of Orifice or you've bought a key?

It used to be the case that you had to uninstall the trial and reinstall the full version due to fundamental differences in the codebase between Trial and Full.

Dont know if this is still the case though.

I bought a new Vaio a few weeks ago. Figured I may as well get the Office working on it so - as posted - tried to enable it with the 25 digit key on the base of the machine. Failed. Got another trial key from Microshit and it won't upgrade. Says nowt about buying a new version, uninstalling, blah blah. I suspect I may lose the will to live watching a poxy PC wrestle with all that.

How did that cock ever get to be the world's richest man with this rubbish? Why won't it just ing upgrade like it thinks it can? WTF does a "we've ran out" message mean? Macs just don't do bullshit like this.

This escapade is a reminder of why I've only ever used PCs under sufferance. Utter, utter shit.

I thought the key told the program what it was (trial/full) so hitting a trial version with a full blown key should disable the time delay. I can imagine a trail of O2k not liking a O2k3 puka version key though and vice versa obviously.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

I guess (??) that the Vaio is loaded with an old version of Office 2003 and that's why it won't 'unlock'.
Why then doesn't the ing Microshit site say so then and - better still idea - give me the ing option to buy the latest version???

Ahh missed this bit. You've got to factor in OEM versions. The WinXP key that's on the arse end of that laptop will only work on the OEM version that came with the laptop... it wouldn't surprise me to know that it's exactly the same thing with it's demo of O2k3... it's good for the Sony OEM demo only. Bit fecking useless IMHO.

Don't quote me... but Microsoft don't usually sell stuff directly. Instead they work through distributors and 3rd party vendors for one off sales and only get directly involved with the big corporate affairs (which is where they make most of their cash anyway).

I've seen O2k3 for sale in the local Staples although yeah it would be nice if MS could at least give you a discount voucher for the puka version after using their demo and wanting to buy.

Good lad Boss. Good lad.
Never had a problem with MS Orifice for the Mac - trial became student edition once the key was added.
Lovely and simple.

If it's your own money then Open Office is a better bet imo.

Yep. Office on the Mac is a vastly superior product to Office for the PC.

As for the PC, I'd turn it's screen to face the wall... it is supposed to be the Naughty Corner after all

I shan"t bother with Office on the PC. Ordered it on Amazon for the MacBook - all the "wanna upgrade" links worked perfectly (of course!). I have at least got the wireless network running with both machines on it. Hurrah!

I used to moan about microsoft's licensing. Then i experienced Red Hat's licensing for their server OS.

Phil, a pc, you? You knew sh*t was going to happen . . . . . . when you pushed the 'order'-button didn't ya . . .

I have a pc for the missus since a few months now (came for free with the new cellphone). My pc-nerdy neighbour may touch it. I just check the carvids I can't see on my beloved iMac '02.

Wizards . . . Boloody hell who invented that racket! Everytime I tried to install whatever I felt like a bloody imbicile. Dear neighbour does the trick in a few secs so it must be some human defect
