Can anyone help - looking at buying a 2002 c4s, found a nice car but it's only got the standard ICE and I would like to update this possibly to an after market sat nav unit. I understand that the car has fibre optic wiring. Can anyone shed any light on compatability issues etc...

Any Info gratefully recieved.

Might be worth double checking that the C4S definitely is the fibre optic one. My 2002 C2 is not, it's a CDR22 head unit, works a treat with the dension ice link for the ipod. Thinking about maybe doing a speaker upgrade though.....

Fibre Optic was only used on the Bose system I believe...The std set up uses normal wiring

If it is CDR22 or PCM1 then you are OK, but if it is CDR23 or PCM2 then it is optical and rather more challenging to upgrade!

HTH!

Badsically, if you change the HU to a non optical one, the simplest thing to do is to rewire the factory speakers to connect to the new head unit, but depending on the amplifier fitted, they may not include crossovers (to split the signal so that tweeters don't get bass etc) so that might not work either! Best thing to do is to change the HU and get some new speakers fitted (ideally with a new amplifier). 996s sound great when given even a simple upgrade.

Cheers

I've replaced all of my speakers with MB Quarts and the 5.25" 'bass' units in the doors with a set of Infinity units I had knocking about. A massive improvement! Just a little cutting and lots of Dynamat and Araldite

I'd recommend you get in touch with Prestige Audio in Rickmansworth. They upgraded my Cayenne, which has fibre optics. The solution was to disconnect this and replace with copper and a few Alpine and DLS goodies.
