IIRC you're involved with the ABD?

There's been a lot of talk on here recently of 'government by soundbite' and how the ABD could use a similar, simple, argument to get it's message accross.

I remember reading that the '30% of accidents' quote could be broken down into those with speed as a primary and secondary factor etc etc, but 'inappropriate speed' and the offence 'speeding' are not necessarily the same thing.

I was wondering, exactly what percentage of accidents happen above the speedlimit? I have no idea what the answer might be, but it'd give the ABD a suitably quick response in interviews;

"30% of accidents are caused by speeding..."

"Yes, but only x% happen over the limit hence for the remainder (probably the majority IMHO) speed cameras do not help in any way shape or form".

Just a suggestion, but may be worth looking into...

not sure if I rear you right on this one p*ting, but my take on it is the fact that (on motorways) everyone is speeding, the average cruising speed is 80+mph therefor when there is a shunt the 'safety partnerships' can say the accident was caused by speeding and ignore any other mitigating circumstances such as applying lippy or tailgating.
On country roads it's difficult not to get caught up in a 45mph numpty convoy (which will continue through villages at 45mph)so if you are speeding it will probably be in a desperate overtaking manouver.
In towns if you are speeding you are a twat and get what you deserve.

I'm with you on your comments Apache...why is it that you always get stuck in a 45mph cross country convoy, on a reasonably quick road that is mostly unsafe to overtake on? But strangely, the convoy leader (normally a numpty in a MICRA) does not slow down whatsoever for villages with a 30mph limit...totally baffling to me my friend!

You've managed to get a Micra to 45 mph, Al? inclination and wind assisted I assume.

My theory is that anyone who can get a Nissan to do this sort of speed is just trying to show off when they get to a limit they can break

I'd have thought the least Ferhurst's could do was put a bloody big sticker in the back window that say's MY OTHER CAR IS A TVR!

As far as the speed goes Ron, even the speed of a mere 4L doesn’t prepare you for pure adrenaline rush you get from a MICRA scary!

Ironic that...I remember being held up by quite a few TVR's on the A roads back from Le Mans last year (in my Cinquecento turbo)
