Can anybody suggest a decent programme for ripping DVDs?

I've tried Magic DVD Ripper which seems ok, but I was wondering if there was anything else I should have a look at...

edit: I don't want to back the disks up, I'd like to rip them to and avi or mp4 file

No offense but the OP did state this is a mission to transcode not backup disc 2 disc. DVDShrink won't transcode to MP4, DivX/XviD.

Or at least my copy of 3.2 won't.

If you've got a dual layer burner and dual layer dvd-r's you can do unadulterated copies, without faffing around reconverting the mpeg files for 2-3 hours.

ffmpeg is probably the best transcoder software around, if you don't mind using a command line.

Dogs danglies. Just remember to change the cropping/sizing from the default if you want to watch the output on a TV
