Jumping CDs

Does anyone have any good ideas how to stop my 6 stacker from constantly jumping every time i go over a stone!?! Mine is a Pioneer CDX-P650 6 disc complete with "anti - vibration chassis!!!" It's beginning to craze me, and i know i should only be worried about listening to the exhaust note but its nice to listen to the CD now and then. Oh, and its mounted vertically in the boot of my tuscan. Thanks all!!

Don't know about your particular model, but many players have a mechanism that needs to be set for horizontal or vertical mounting. Could be that you have the player vertical, but the damping mech. is set to horizontal...?

I had exactly that problem with my Griffith, and it was due to the damping of the changer being set to horizontal instead of vertical. Once that was sorted (at the first service I seem to remember), I don't think it ever jumped again (although I can't say the same for my passengers though!)

I read somewhere that the CD should always be horizontal for the best chance of it not skipping.

Mine use'd to suffer from very bad jumping even when positioned in vertical mode. The player hangs in a type of cradle inside the outer casing. On each corner there is a pin that sits in a rubber disc which acts as a schock absorber. The problem I had was that one pin had come out of the rubber disc. Once put back in, no further problems.

SwanJack - Was this something you were able to do yourself or was it a dealer/ICE repair job?

Might be the oil dampers are shot , easy enough to replace if you are good with a screw driver should be able to get them through a car audio dealer, how old is the changer by the way ?

It was something I did myself, the player comes apart and goes back togethor quite easily. The plastic disc's that i mentioned must be the oil dampers that DennisTheMennance talks about. I tried a number of places to get new ones, but nobody could help. Some of them needed reshaping by hand and I put them back in on different corners.

Dennis, the cd changer was new with the car so about 2.5 years old - what are the chances of new parts? and me putting it back together in one piece, and working!!!

I can't believe I have just seen this, I have just upgraded my pioneer cd changer to the 12 disk one and sold my 6 disk tonight!!, it was 3 months old, like new with the box and all the bits, sold it to my friend for £20!!!!!, you could have replaced yours!!!!!
Apart from the obvious side switches for the angle you have it on the other option is to try and position it somewhere else to see if it helps, where abouts do you have it at present???

You should be able to order the dampers from a car audio dealer , just take the out side casing off the internals of the changer sit on i think 4 dampers ,just little pins locating them , they are pretty stright forward , a dealer shouldnt charge too much to fix it its about 20 mins work .
