350SE Alloy Wheel Centre Caps
Discussion
I have the same wheels on mine. The centre caps hold on with just a single bolt as you suggest, with no thread lock or spring washers. I just tighten them up securly until they creak slightly. My bolts use an allen key, so its difficult to overtighten them as you can't get a huge amount of pressure on the key before it hurts your hand. I've never lost a cap in 10 years, so I don't think you need to worry too much.
I have actually thought about fitting a safety wire to the back of the cap, and securing this to a modified wheel nut or something. Would save loosing the cap should it ever come lose and also prevent it going through someones windscreen. Think that will be one of my next projects actually...

The original anti theft screws have a taper seat which may make them a firmer fit.
I run with standard stainless socket screws (M6) with a star washers. (don't know if the washer is really necessary)
I do check tightness regularly but never found a loose one.
Use some thread lock if in doubt - it will reduce corrosion if using normal screws.
If the 'wheel' threads wear - 1/4unc helicoils work well.

How many sets of these wheels exist? There seems to be alot more than the 25 SEs that were prodcued.
Some of the 350se's are running with replacement wheels - may explain a few sets.
RT bought the factory stock when TVR had a clear out a few years ago. (RT also sold out years ago)
There are a few around but difficult to find when you need one.
Similar wheels (diamond cut spokes) where available as an option on later 350i's but the centres are different.

Have you seen any SEs (or photos of) with different alloys? My original alloys are safely stored away - they'd need a refurb before they'd go back onto the car. I've been assuming a refurb of them won't be cheap as they are diamond cut.
Saw a 350i (badged as a 460SE with 4.6 engine) with a set of the SE alloys on at the WM TVRCC meeting on Sunday.

Just picked up a set of 350SE Alloy Wheels, is it correct that a single machine screw is enough to hold the the cast alloy
centre caps on? or should there be a spring washer? etc or some sort of thread lock applied? It just seems a bit poor design.

If these are the OZ wheels as fitted to the 400SE my caps are plastic & secured with one machine screw but the screw has a groove in it to take a circlip to keep it in place.
