3200gt - brakes

hi folks
just got my 3200gt a few days ago and loving it!
as usual, a few niggles. firstly, need new front disks and pads. i can get EBC pads easily enough from the likes of demon-tweeks but what about discs?
totally unrelated, but the aircon (when not in econ mode) makes a hissing sound?

My aircon used to hiss. Dealer told me that there was a small amounnt of water in the system. As they had just re-gassed it for me I was not going to pay again so I said i would live with it until it needed re-gassing again. I got some 2nd hand discs from David Askew he has a whole stack of them and a lot less money than new ones.
the aircon wont stop hissing which is annoying but it is cold.
the pads all round are new, the rear disks are new but the front discs have a lip on them that you can catch with your fingernail so guessing they need to be replaced. the front brakes are squealing which is why i took a look.
also, what should the bite on the brake pedal be like? the first 2 inches of travel does nothing then gradually they come on but you really need to press them progressively harder to bring the car to a halt from speed.

The OEM Maserati Discs are made by Brembo - Do you really want any less with 370bhp and 1.6 tonnes? If not, fit OEM Discs only and at £156 each new (per Eurospares) its hardly a mortgage job. Regarding the lip at the outer edge, this is normal as Brembo discs are designed to sacrificially wear at roughly the rate of 3 sets of pads to 1 disc. For this reason, it is usually a complete waste of time and effort in fitting second hand units.
Lack of bite and spongy pedal after fitting pads to old discs is normal until the pads properly bed in. That said, if you are using non-standard pads, check they are properly clearing the lip on the disc edge. Do make sure that pads are an easy slide fit into caliper by carefully cleaning all the crud from the caliper prior to fitment
