Hi All
Owned a Cerb for two years and sold it in Feb 06. Had all the usual niggles but still wanted to get back into a TVR, so.............
Picked up a Griffith 500 last night
Driving it home around the 70mph mark (honest
) and the bonnet pops up. Now I've had this happen on the Cerb and although at first you can't see a thing out front by the time you've slowed the bonnet dropps back down so you can see!
Well last night's bonnet rise was very scary indeed. Luckily on a straight road. The bonnet stays up!!!
Is this common? I'm sure it was locked down before I left!

Had mine do it twice, once durin a trackday session with Tuscan challenge driver giving me tuition...happening then sure does make ya bum squirm!
On both occasions it was because i hadn't closed the bonnet properly, if you close it gently it can looked closed but hasn't actually clicked fully home into the catch.

Looks like I found the problem.
While the bonnet is open the pull cable is loose. If I put a screw driver in the lock like the bonnet post and get it into the locked position the cable is pulling on the lock.
Any twisting/vibration when on the move and it's enough to pop the lock open.

Good + point. Well, tonight the wife touched it
(the Griff that is) and it wouldn't start due to a flat battery (still talking about the Griff). I see from the history it last had a new battery Sept 04. In this two years it's only done 3k miles so the battery hasn't done too bad!
Off to Leven tomorrow for a new one

I think it can happen (I have seen it mentioned elsewhere a few times) - my assumption is that the bonnet just wasn't pushed down properly.
Now I always double check it and give it little tug around by the latch to see if I can lift it after pushing it down.
It hasn't happened again since - though I haven't had the opportunity to drive a fast since.

just 1 comment having seen a no. of TVR owners break the rule over the years.. never slam fibreglass. Always rest in place then finally push home (boot, bonnet)

Glad someone else thinks this. I noticed lots of people at the growl, dropping there boot lids to close them
My handbook says lower it and then press it locked as you say.....
