“Give me the fcuking keys or you dead”

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!

Walking back to my house last night after work, get to my front door, stop, go through my pockets to find my keys then WAM…. Some guy grabs me by the back of the neck and pushes me against my front door and says “gimy the fcuking keys to ya car or ya dead”…. I said “I really don’t have them! I’ve sold it!”.. guy got really angry shouting “I sh1t you not ya gona get done if ya don’t pass me the fcuking keys!!!!”. I told him “don’t you think I of would give them to you if I had them! I The car is insured and not worth my life!, I sold it over a week ago” I held my hand up slowly and showed him just my door keys… guy kneed me in the leg (dead leg) then banged my head on the front door and ran off!..

Turned around to look (didn’t fancy chasing him funnily enough) and noticed that he was dressed all in black with a matching hood. Jesus did my heart pump.

Thing is, in the week I live in east London and my car is kept in secure parking down the road. Obviously they have clocked me driving around and know where the car is parked and have basically figured out where I live (just down the road) and this was an obvious car jacking attempt.

Have to say, what a fcuking idiot! 6.30 PM on a week day, even if he had managed to get the keys, how far does he think he’s going to get!!! It’s a 5 minute walk (or a 2 minute run) to the garage, then he’s got to figure out what button opens the garage then after that how to disable the immobiliser, how to get in, how to get it out of a boxed garage, even how to drive the dam thing!!! then after all that get out of London traffic in rush hour (Blackwall tunnel - good one) What a genius.. NOT!!!!!

I haven’t managed to bring myself to tell my other half what happened; she would be so worried it wouldn’t be funny. Hell, im worried now.. I don’t want to leave my front door. Something tells me there going to be back or more than likely be watching the garage for any movement.

Its lucky I really have sold it! But it doesn’t stop me hating London and being scared sh1tless about going back to my own home. Time to move, but im under a 1 year lease and there’s no get out clause… any ideas as to what I can do to get out of a tenancy agreement 9 months in advance?

Thanks guys.

J

Report this to the police if you havent already, but try and keep it low key from the missus - she'll only get upset, and make you buy a Beetle, or a Mini next time.

Like you said, this wasnt the best planned crime by the brightest spark, so its likely the police will pick him up sitting outside the secure parking, and send him back to Feltham.

As regards breaking the tenancy, you could simply talk to the landord, explain the situation, and offer to cover his out of pocket expenses for termination, but this assumes he is a gent, and doesnt screw you for six months when the next chap is in in one.

In the spirit of the day, and aside from the sensible advice, you should always carry a nice sharp cutlass, and a few spare belaying pins for precisely this contingency. Arrrr...

One of my genuine fears Im afraid and also why I insist our car keys in my house are left in one relatively easy/obvious place for any theives to find and do what they need/want without resorting to feeling the need to threaten/harm either myself/fiancee or tennants to get their job done. Motorcars are simple not worth it.

Hellish to hear about that. Not much you can say other than I agree about the possibility of them now watching you and the house. Contact the police and explain the situation. Contact your Landlord and try to work out some sort of exit plan between you. Start the process of looking for a new tennant to the property yourself so you can present a readymade replacement to your Landlord.

Lastly, talk to your partner. I am a habitually private type and not used to sharing info and I can often get lost in my own thoughts/world. Ive learnt that its Ok to let the other half know stuff, even when I think it would only worry her, because even just that process is cathartic. Our other halves are usually stronger than we think they are and in times of trouble & strife you only pull together harder and look out for each other more. Remember also, there's nowt so protective as a woman who thinks her family is being threatened!

i'm on a 12 month lease but it has a six month break with one months notice on either side built in - check to see if that is the case with yours. If the landlord has a managing agent they would be able to tell you. As for the rest of it you have to hope that the low life scum ends up on the wrong end of a knife fight - and i'm a woolly liberal! Good luck

Hi,
I got out of a lease by finding someone who wanted to take over the remainder! a lot of contract workers only require short term leases (oil and gas contractors) and my landlord was quite happy as long as he was paid every month, worth a try, talk to the landlord as see if this would be acceptable.

Glad you are relatively OK. The b*stards that pull stunts like this want gelding with two half bricks! Did you speak to Plod and if so, what sort of response did you get?
It's a real shame that one of the car alarm companies don't offer an electric chair option, then again, if they did and we used it, you can bet WE would end up on the wrong side of the law. It sure makes my blood boil!!!

Glad you are OK!
Sounds like a novice and he may well get caught at some time so let the police know-if they catch him at any time in the future his attack on you is another case of assault and attempted robbery and that can make all the difference between how long he goes away for.

Holy censored

Glad you are OK, like has been said report it to the police.. I suppose you might aswell even though there is a tiny chance of them actually doing anything about it.. (not much you can do really in this situation).
And you could keep it to yourself, on the basis that it is better that you don't scare the other half, but if I were you i'd share it, you'll only get a bollocking when she eventually asks why the police were on the phone earlier!

I see no reason for them to come back.. hope the scum who did this steals something that spontaneously combusts.

What an awful thing to happen.

Maybe its time to carry a second set of car keys which don't unlock anything - just to give to scrote-boy and get rid of him - a bit like the second wallet with appealling looking wad of notes in it trick for dodgy areas at night. Give the mugger something in the hope they'll take it and run.

2nd set of keys?? I have enough trouble carrying along the hundredweight of metal I have as it is.....is it just me or do we collect more and more keys the older we get?...

Seriously though, this is a shocking story. I know from when we were burgled that the initial feeling was pure anger but the shock/reality soon kicks in and I count myself lucky we were asleep when the ar*ehole was in the house and taking the keys/car etc. God knows what would have happened if I had woke or our daughter came downstairs during the night...

Hona - I can only assume you are pretty shaken up by this but I also reiterate other's comments about talking to your other half about this, not doing so will only eat you up inside I reckon.

Just my tuppence worth

Mungo that is very interesting. Is there anywhere the average law abiding person can get more information like this?-anything that genuinely helps the police helps all of us.

thats increadibly disturbing - glad your ok though - its a sad world we live in today. as other would strongly suggest sharing with the missus - and notifying the police - they may not do anything but still should be done.

really sorry to hear about that, me reckons you just got unlucky..real bummer. As an east london resident too it always crosses my mind that someone's going to want my car eventually, and living opposite a crack house dosn't inspire me confidence..my only hope is that some of those w**kers out there already realise that there unlikely even to get past the drivers door, let alone be able to drive the thing. Was told once that tvrs dont tend to get stolen often, hence was quite pleasantly surprised at my insurance quote compared to my previous suburu impreza. By the way was an interesting idea leaving the keys in an obvious place, tend to leave mine well hidden, have small daughter..and small wife..perhaps i'll leave them by the front door from now on..
For what it's worth i'd tell your other half if you havn't already, it'll fester else..as regards the tenancy i'm sure if you talk to the landlord nicely he'll be ok with it

That's a terrible story but not isolated to London I'm afraid.

An old school friend of mine got car jacked at gunpoint in Sydney - in broad daylight.

The police were symapthetic but said it is an increasing problem.

Lots of the advice on this forum sounds very sensible though - we should all take notice, where ever we live...
