Put it on BBC2
Discussion
Got the gist from the last two minutes. Was there a balanced argument at any stage of the programme, or did it just focus on the Max Power w@nkers?
Tara P-T was towing a rather PC line at the end, saying that she'd never be a passenger with someone who speeds: I remember her terrifying Clarkson in her NSX in London a few years ago. Hmm.

Not convinced by it.
Great early short (DB5 on the M1, Dukes of hazard) but TP-T saying "speed is so last season..."
I really dont like her. And where was the "INappropraite speed" message?
And why were the only speed advocates Boy racers?? Would'nt it have been nice to have normal, family people saying how they enjoy driving quickly in safety???
Oh well... There's always moving to France/Belgium...

The intellegent amongst us will not have been brainwashed by that diatribe.
Like many I break the legal limit (increasingly arbitrarily set) on empty A roads and motorways, but only a small percentage of "speeders" race around housing estates or do doughnut competitions at McDonalds Carparks.
A truely appalling program, that shows the Beeb for what it is, namely a tool for New Labia spin.
DAZ
PS - Thumbs up to Damon Hill.

What utter undisguised, government-arse-licking, PC, lentil-munching PROPOGANDA.
If they're going to make PROPOGANDA, they could at least spend some money on, say, a presenter.
The middle of the programme was actually quite good, and informative (although it didn't say James Dean's accident wasn't his fault). A half hour of that, without all the Bliairite stuff would have been fantastic.
Interesting how the protesters against the 70mph speed limit were saying exactly the same thing we are saying now. Word for f
g word.
AND, it was sexist too, all this talk of men and "young men". I had a very hard time trying to stop Mrs 006 sticking her foot through the screen.
What a waste of an hour, i'll bill the BBC (Blairs Bitches Club) for my time.
Any way to get my license fee back (and to think i've just bought a freeview box and all)?

Not ONE mention of innapropriate speed.
I thought that on the whole it was weighted towards that argument. The cop discussing the wnaker driving the Nissan Prarie (NISSAN PRARIE
FFS!) mentioned that he was driving outside his ability. Also I thought that the "speed on the M1" bit was pretty clear that the drivers and cars were not prepared or designed for the speed, rather than specifically speed itself being the problem. Hmmm... I suppose congratulations should go to Damon, not least for managing to get a RUDDY GREAT banner for his car hire company all over the screen on BBC2!! Now that really is advertising that money just can't buy...
PS - Thumbs up to Damon Hill.
On another note, just how many more times are we going to be subjected to that ancient footage of a red MG Maestro (or is it a Montego?) hooing around an estate???
ok, maybe i was watching a different program to the rest of you but i thought it was reasonably balanced, well, ok, as reasonable as you can expect...
of course they had the obligitary "my daughter/son/parent/pet... was killed by a speeder..."
and of course the 'max power lot' showing off, stating they don't care... but at least it wasn't a "YOU WILL DIE IF YOU SPEED" message...
the fact that include hot-rods and muscle cars, as well as hot hatches and didn't blame all speeding on basball-capped yoofs in novas was quite a surprise
also they included the views of Damon Hill and some bloke with a Charger R/T (splaf...) so weren't all bad...
and to all government types watching, a speed limiter will never work, for 4 reasons:
1, if you can get one on my car - GOOD LUCK!!!
2, people will disable them
3, other countries have different speed limits... imagine being stuck at 70 in germany on holiday
and most importantly 4, even 30mph is enough to kill a FOOKING lot of people so whats the point of limiting all cars to the speed limit where they can still do what your trying to stop (ie road deaths)
i totally agree with the culling of TPT though, i have her on video on the gumball rally speeding, driving down a runway when a plane is trying to land (!!!) and hitting a kerb... so its not as if she's goody2shoes...
and, when she says "i'll ask any driver whos speeding to just stop..." does that mean doing 150mph, or 31mph... its all the same and its all illegal...
rant over.

I thought it was reasonably balanced too, apart from the occasional 'speeding causes most accidents' kind of comment.
To suggest that this program had something to do with New Labour and propaganda is ridiculous - in the real world (i.e. not PH) the programme reflected how many people think.
The motoring psychologist was particularly good - no judgements on anyone, just an analysis of how they were thinking.
