Suzuki DRZ400 SM

I've got an 'S' not 'SM'.
You ain't going to break any land speed records with one.
Apparently the 'SM' is excellent on the twisty stuff. I find mine handles well on trails tyres, so I can imagine with road rubber it'll be a scream.
Tank range will be iro 70-80 miles.
Finish is pretty good, there are loads of accessories and replacement plastics cheap.
There are a few mods to get more performance and at reasonable cost too.
Comfort isn't great and you'll have probably had enough by the time the tank runs out. Depends what you want the bike for. As a fun bike, for scratchin', yeh great. As an of roader (S or E model) they are good. Commuting 4 miles . . . no probs.

As said, a 4 mile commute will be no trouble. 50 miles though
The seat's not really designed for sitting on for too long. I ran mine as an SM (with Talons) last summer, but have put it back to off-road spec for the winter. That way I spend more time standing up (or more accurately, falling off & laying down writhing in agony).
Nice soft bike for either use though. Not as focused as many others out there, and probably all the better for it.

i have a sm drz , its the elecy start model, the one with the plastic tank etc which im told is the better 1 as its lighter.
It has all the sm bit, talon hubs, big wavey disc on front, loads and loads of bits really well sorted and i may look at selling it.....
As for your questions then they are absoluteley stunning fun and handle really well, the commute to work will never of been as much fun i assure u.
The longer 50 mile radius trips may not be ideally suited tho. THe bike is perfectley comfortable , its just not fast enough imo. It screams to 80 odd and will push near 100mph flat out but i wouldnt want to hold one at that rpm for to long.
They are perfect for short blasts.
There u go.
