I have the car jacked up again.

I'm not happy with the front end.

The front tyres are rubbing on the arches.

There are AVO's fitted with what appear to be standard springs.

I have them adjusted up to the last (virtually no travel left in the springs) and it's still too low.

I need suspension travel or the car will rattle itself to bits on the roads here.

Knackered springs, perhaps ????????????????

Hi,

We had a similar problem with clearance issues... I cant remember exactly how it was sorted springs/damper wise, but it was done by Trackcarsolutions about five years ago, always worth a quick phone call.

I've found a number for AVO while searching through the history.

I plan to ring them in the morning.

I reckoned a post on here would be well worth while, though.

The level of knowledge appears to be very good on here.

I've been back on the spanners again.

I've taken the front and back shock out and taken the springs off them.

The details of them are

FRONT
Shock 11" closed and 14" open
Spring is 10"

BACK
Shock 12" closed and 16" open
Spring is 12"

The back spring feels a lot stronger than the front (perhaps this is down to it's extra length).

Does all this sound right?

Are the springs in the right locations?

Hi, I've just sold my Avo shocks otherwise I'd have looked for you as I had standard springs too. My springs were marked 'TVR' if thats any help. I'm pretty sure Trackcar have some springs that are better suited to AVOs and will probably be able to solve your problem.

You will get a lot of advice and recomendations on here regarding shocks, and you can spend anywhere between £400-1200, its all down to chooice.
AVO are decent shocks, and I'm sure they offer a refurb service.

I replaced the shocks on mine with Gaz Gold, and I am more than pleased with both the shocks, and the service provided by the company that sold them. My car was one of the ones used by Absolutely Shocks and Euphoria Racing to develop the shocks for the Cerbera, and the size and spring rate were arrived at after trying other sizes and spring rates. The fronts are 9"x400lbs amd the rears 10"x360lbs.

Hope this helps

Have replaced my standard suspension with Nitron gear but still have the standard stuff in the garage, they are as follows.

Front - Maroon colour - No. TVR C0202 Eibach 38/02
Rear - Green colour - No. TVR D0117 Eibach 38/02

The springs are still on the standard dampers & a few other measurements which may help are:

Length of front spring on damper - 7.75 inches
Distance between front damper mounting holes - 14.25 inches

Length of rear spring on damper - 9.5 inches
Distance between rear damper mounting holes - 15.75 inches

Hope this is of some help

Regards
Simon

I've just spoken to Nigel in AVO who was very helpful.

The shocks are the right ones, the 1062's.

Time to investigate further.

It might be something as stupid as the wrong size tyres on the front.

I reckon I'm going to know a bit about there cars by the time I'm finished

Just looked up your pic from when you bought, looks like you have 16" Spiders on which were not a Cerb standard fit item so they have been added at some point - so yes could be a tyre issue. On the original Cerb 16 OZ wheel I think it should be 225/45/16 but then I think the Speed Six cars ran 225/50 on the fronts (in fact same as the back) - could be that you have the speed 6 tyre size on and that is creating a bigger rolling radius for you, should still be fine with original suspension (as after all it is what the speedsix cerbs ran) but the AVO's might be designed with only the standard V8 tyre size in mind, don't know here just surmising.

Another thing to check if you are running 16" spiders is what set you have. If you have a full set i.e 2 fronts and 2 rears then you will find they have different offset, 38 front and 25 rear I think - not ideal really as the original Cerb 16's ran 35 offset all round. 38 at the front would be ok in theory as pretty close to standard but maybe you have a rear wheel (or both) on the front by accident?

akin to TCs post - is the rubbing when driving or when turning at low speed. If the latter then that is a 'feature' of spider offsets. Can be cured with steering lock stops (ie big plastic 'washers' on the steering rack to limit the turn).

I also got the original alloys c/w tyres with the car.

I have a courier collecting them for me and I should have them today.

I'll try them on it and see what happens.

I also I reckon I'll be fitting a stronger / longer spring as I want some bit of suspension travel.

Courier just dropped off the standard wheels an hour ago.

I'm going to compare them to the Spiders and see if there is a big difference in offset.

If I've got time I'll stick the suspension back together and try the wheels on it to see how they go.

Maybe I can have my nice low car AND keep the bodywork intact after all.

We'll see ......
