Anybody know how to set it to show hidden files?
I'm new to OS X but so far i'm very impressed. It does seem a bit harder to get into the more technical bits of it than with XP though (fewer options menus / advanced tabs etc).

Cheers guys,
Bernie

There may be a perference in the Finder Perferences. Otherwise TinkerTool (www.bresink.com/osx/0TinkerTool/details.html) can enable it...

File, find or apple key + f. First drop down box set to "other". Another drop down appears, set to visibilty. Then second drop box set the visibility.

Second row for more options on that row.

For general guidance, if you can think of more than two reasons to press three keys at once on a Mac keyboard, you can call yourself an expert. For most people 'tinkering' means getting the destop laid out properly. I'd had my first Mac six years before I realised it had a backslash key!

Sorted with tinker tool, thanks guys.

I had been using my iPod as an external hard drive to move files from my pc to mac but rather than deleting files from the iPod OS X was putting them in hidden folders and not freeing up any space. Only niggle ive had with OS X so far, otherwise i'm very impressed.

Also worth remembering is if you want to see the contents of an application say, which is otherwise just show as a single file e.g. Safari, you can hit option and mouse click which bring up a menu and then select 'Show Package Contents.
