Have a 1.6 gti, with low mileage, HPI clear, solid rear beam etc. Just replaced the cambelt, alternator, clutch, gearbox oil and given it a full service.

Now there is a loud crunching when ever it goes into 2nd gear, looks like the 2nd gear syncro has gone, apart form the 2nd gear its a pukka moter, I’ll be selling it shortly and cannot decide if its worth getting it fixed?

Any suggestions? any idea how much it'd cost?

Cheers
Dave

If it was not doing that before you changed the 'box oil I'd first make sure the correct grade is in it and that the level is right.

You can get a functioning 'box for £50 or less and the labour to swap it over and get a new clutch into the bargain should not be more than £200.

If you source a box make sure you get the correct one - To lift up reverse is a BE1 and reverse below 5th is a BE3.
Miles (rebuilds these boxes, I have one) on the 205GTIdrivers forum could help you here, I don't really want to postr his mobile number on this forum though.
