Anyone been over to the Oktoberfest before?

I've somehow agreed to drive me + 3 there next Friday - are there any good roads on the way and anyone know a decent place to stay (thinking campsite...)?

hehe

Only been as a kiddie but do know it is a top event and one I really want to go over and do myself!

I have heard to avoid the 'English marquee' for the louts.

Have fun doode!

just got back yesterday working at a related event for beerfest vistors just over the border in Austria. I've been to the actual Oktoberfest a few years about and it's definately worth a trip to see the scale of it and bavarian beer madness at it's best . I don't think you'll find any accomodation within 1/2 hour drive of the site now.

Driving directions below if you want..
would suggest – A16(E40) CALAIS TO DUNKIRK, HEAD EAST N225 THEN A25/A27 (E42) PAST LILLE INTO BELGIUM,
THEN FOLLOW A16/E42, JOIN E19/A7 AROUND MONS, THEN A15 (E42) TO LIEGE, THEN A3 (E40) INTO GERMANY NEAR AACHEN,
THEN 44/A4 (E40) TOWARDS KOLN ,THEN SOUTH A61 (E31) FOR A WHILE, PAST LUDWIGSHAFEN/MANNHEIM, THEN A6/E50 TO A5 (E35) THEN SOUTH TO KARLSRUE, TAKE A8 (E52) FOR A LONG WHILE PAST STUTTGART TO MUNICH (MUNCHEN),

Alternatively take the A26 down to Reims and then the A4 to the French/German border.

The E52 from Stuttgart to Munich is heavily used and there are long sections which are not unlimited. Good news is that on most of it lorries are banned from lane 2

We used this route to drive back last year - Munich to Reading in a day, leaving at 9am home by 11pm...

Enjoy the funfair that surrounds the beerfest beer

Thanks for all the ideas - as it's my first proper trip in the M3, I think the route back may have to take in the Nurburgring!
