Isn't the boot floor just GRP? I wouldn't risk it!

I think the key is not to drop stuff in, or have sharp pointy stuff that is likely to slide around.

How much weight is a bag of gravel, 50kg? Three bags would be 150kg, so check the book for max vehicle weight as a starting point. If you, fuel, etc plus the gravel comes in below the max weight you should be OK. I think the structure will support this amount of weight because the weight will be evenly distributed. Just don't go 'hooning' with it in there.

Last time I bought sand gravel etc they came in 25kg bags I asked the builders merchant why and was told the 50kg bags could no longer be sold due to a new EU rule the maximum bag size / carry load for a single person is 25kg (or something like that)

Three bags of gravel should be OK if only 25Kg each.

You could try putting them on something. Big bit of wood, might spread the load a bit, and stop it flexing.

Stick some of the weight on the rear parcel shelf. Ideal for a few slabs of beer when the boot is full. Stops the front wheels lifting off the ground too.

I would expect a piece of wood to do more harm than good, since the floor of the boot isn't exactly flat. The gravel bags will adapt to the shape of the boot anyway?

Johno put a Full Beer Barrel in his boot before BT&P... it got a bit wedged against the fueltank on the way there but we managed to lift it clear eventually..

Of course you managed to lift it clear! That's 'coz you drank some of it to be able to lift it !!
