My car is going into the garage for the winter, but I dont want to renew my full road insurance which has just run out. Does anyone know of any companies that offer simple fire and theft insurance while the car is in the garage over the winter ?

Just a thought, but you may find that this would affect your build up of no claims bonus. You may be better just having a limited mileage policy based on your summer mileage.

Paul, if it isn't too late to keep your current policy alive it would be better to have it endorsed for your proposed 'off-the-road' winter, if your insurers are prepared to do that. Why not telephone them and ask? After all it is a perfectly reasonable request. Otherwise you risk a set-back with your no-claims bonus. If you are an AA member it would be worth telephoning them for specialist advice, and the number to call is 0800 444777.

Talk to classicline of Hinckley. I've had my 3000m insured with them on lay up for ages despite it not being on the road since 1986(!) and the engine spending most of last year over 100 miles from the rest of the car(!!)
